fernando garcía dory is a neo-pastoral artist and agroecologist.
His work focuses on themes affecting current relationships between culture and
nature in the framework of the landscape, the rural, desires and expectations
related to aspects of identity, the crisis, utopia and social change. He often
uses self-organizing strategies, initiating collaborative processes of soziale
plastik.
In 2004 he proposed the creation of a Shepherd´s School. He stayed
that year with a shepherd to test the training system, and directs the yearly
courses since then. More than 100 people have been trained as shepherds by
veteran active herders who spend from June until November in a mountain hut in
Northern Spain ranges, with a flock composed by goats, sheeps and cows, which
milk is transformed daily into cheese.
